AUDITION PREPARATION FOR KIDS AND THEIR PARENTS
Cost: $350 +HST
ARE YOU GETTING IN THE WAY OF YOUR CHILD'S SUCCESS?
This two day workshop for child actors (13 to 16) and one or both of their parents on two consecutive Sundays is designed to increase the knowledge and reduce the stress associated with preparing you and your child for an audition. It will answer your questions regarding everything from what directors want to see from a young auditioning actor to how to help prepare your child for the audition. The end result will give your child more confidence when walking into an audition room.
DAY 1 After an overview by acting coach Lewis Baumander of the dos and don’ts of the audition process, a question and answer session will follow. You will then have an opportunity to hear from the experience and expertise of professional guest. You will then learn how to break down a set of sides and work with your child in preparation for the audition.
Running concurrent with this question and answer session, your child will work with an acting coach on audition preparation. The young actors will learn how to identify clues (story points) in their scripts and be able to communicate them in the audition room. Your child will also learn how to ask the right questions in order to identify more closely with their characters. A set of sides will be given to you and your child to work on over the course of the week in preparation for a live audition.
DAY 2
You and your child will return. The actors should have their sides memorized and ready to be presented for the live auditions. The audition session will be adjudicated by Lewis. The auditions will be taped and all parents and young actors will gather for a breakdown and analysis of the auditions. A question and answer session will follow to address any outstanding concerns you may have.
This month's guest is Casting Director JOANNE BOREHAM ("Radio Free Roscoe", "Connor Undercover")
SELF-TAPE WORKSHOP
Cost: $350 +HST
Whether we like it or not the Self Tape is here to stay. There will be more of it as the cost of flying becomes prohibitive, and producers shift the expense of the audition on to the actor. It is getting very expensive. There is not much we can do about that but we can make the quality of the work you do worth that expense by sending out a quality audition.
Unfortunately too many of the self tapes that are sent do not reflect the quality or ability of the actor sending it. Little to none of the actors training has prepared them for shooting sometimes 8-10 pages in 30 minutes. The taped audition could be doing more harm than good. The workshop will open with a short overview of do’s and don’ts for the self tape. The first day will start with an introduction by Lewis Baumander. A guest Casting Director will discuss what they expects from a self-tape and how a successful taping can help an actor be cast. The students will then be coached and recorded using a set of sides provided for by the studio. The Casting Director will then return and watch the tapes and give students feedback. At the end of the day we will provide everybody with a second set of sides to prepare overnight. The second day the students will be coached and recorded using the second set of sides, and applying the information received the day before. The Casting Director will again watch the second round of tapes and give some final pointers. Past Guest Include:
- Deirdre Bowen
Cost: $299 +HST
